With only a short turnaround time following a five-set marathon victory at the University of Dubuque on Friday night, the Buena Vista volleyball team had to stay in the city and face Loras College on Saturday, and the Duhawks would go onto win the match in three sets (25-19, 25-23, 25-16).
BVU was held to just a .098 attack percentage in the contest, while Loras turned in a .211 mark. Kylie Roe, who had a career-high 29 kills against the Spartans, again led the way in this match with a team-high 11 kills, six digs and three block assists. Mackenzie Gropel had 19 assists and six digs while Summer Goss registered a team-high 15 digs.
"This was a tough loss," said head coach Aubrey Havlichek. "With all the injuries we've battled and our small roster, we had to run an alternate line-up that we aren't very familiar with. Credit to Loras for getting the job done and keying in on our weaknesses. Kylie had a great weekend for us and we finally got to see her make use of all her shots. There's so much to look forward to, and we will regroup, get healthy, and are excited for our final half of conference play."
With the loss, the Beavers drop one game behind the Spartans, and are a half-game behind both Coe and Wartburg.
The team is off until taking part in the St. Catherine Tournament on October 12 before it wraps up its non-conference schedule with a match at Bethany Lutheran on October 17. The Beavers are away from American Rivers Conference play until October 19 when they host the Kohawks at 7:00 p.m.
