The Buena Vista volleyball team is home for the first time this season on September 11, to host Bethany Lutheran in a non-conference match inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

Bethany Lutheran - The Vikings picked up a five-set victory over Crown College to begin the season but have since gone 1-6 since, including a four-set defeat against Central College on Saturday to close out the Grinnell/Central Tournament. Prior to that match, the team had been swept in each of its first three matches of the two-day event.
Megan Rutt has been the team's top attacker so far this season with 87 total kills and an attack percentage of .097. Mindy Poehler is next on the team with 41 kills. As a team, the Vikings have posted a hitting percentage of .033. Mindy Poehler is a threat with the serve by already posting 16 service aces on the year. She's also the team's leading blocker with 19 total on the year. Mackenna Hinz leads the defense with 121 digs and also has 10 service aces. Kalli Mathiasen has dished out a team-high 104 assists with Brittany Sanders next with 74.
The Vikings were picked to finish fifth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference race this season after posting a 6-10 conference mark and finishing sixth in the league standings while just missing out on the conference tournament.

Buena Vista - The Beavers are playing their home opener this evening and look to extend its five-match win streak. The team is coming off a 4-0 record during the Grinnell/Central Tournament this past weekend after picking up a four-set victory at Martin Luther last Wednesday. BVU is 16-3 over its last 19 regular season matches, dating back to last season.
Freshman Sydney McLaren is making herself feel right at home at the collegiate level, leading the team and currently ranking third in the American Rivers Conference at 3.87 kills/set. She's also eighth in the league in attack percentage (.261). McLaren has recorded 20-plus kills in three of her last four matches, including a career-best 26 during a four-set victory against Crown College which was the third-highest in school history for a four-set match. Kylie Roe, who's made the switch to the front row this season, is second on the team in kills. Mackenzie Gropel is leading the league in assists/set (9.82) with Summer Goss second in digs/set (4.70).
The Beavers are coming off a season in which it went 22-10 overall and posted a 5-3 mark during conference play. It won 12 straight matches and advanced into the Iowa Conference Championship match before falling in three sets to Wartburg College. The team was also a perfect 8-0 in home matches and has gone 21-5 inside of Siebens Fieldhouse over the last four seasons.

The Vikings will play a UMAC Triangular at North Central College on Saturday by going against both UW-Superior and North Central. BVU, meanwhile, begins American Rivers Conference play on Thursday, September 13, at Nebraska Wesleyan in a 7:00pm match in Lincoln, Neb.
