After having been away from its home court for nearly three weeks, the Buena Vista volleyball team returned to Siebens Fieldhouse on Wednesday night and chalked up a convincing 3-0 non-conference victory over visiting Bethany Lutheran.
BVU came out of the gate strong with 14 kills and just three hitting errors in the opening set en route to a 25-12 win. The Vikings built an early 6-2 lead in the second, but the Beavers fought back to tie it at 7-7 and take the lead for good after that, finishing with 14 more kills while holding the visitors to only seven kills and six errors, as they pulled away late for the 25-18 win.
Again, Bethany Lutheran opened an early 10-5 lead in the third, but BVU was efficient yet again on offense, as Brooke Runneberg started the rally with one of her five kills on the night, as it rolled off three straight points as part of a 7-1 run that gave BVU a 12-11 lead. It was later tied at 15-15, but the Beavers found their groove late, and put the Vikings away with a 25-16 triumph.
Senior Serena Sandvig came through with a match-high 11 kills and a .529 hitting percentage for the Beavers, while fellow senior Ali Grein added 10 kills and had only two errors. Senior Jade Schaap wasn't far behind with nine kills on 20 swings to go along with six digs.
BVU improves to 11-9 overall and will look to remain perfect on its home court when Loras College (9-10, 3-1 IIAC) comes to town on Friday night for a key Iowa Conference match starting at 7:30pm.
