CEDAR RAPIDS - Junior Emily Hoesing helped lead the Buena Vista University women's track and field team on the first full day of action on Friday at the campus of Coe College by placing fifth in the 10,000-meter run.

Hoesing crossed the finish line with a time of 38:56.25. She missed fourth by two seconds and was 30 seconds away from all-conference accolades.  Sophomore Brittini Thomas also had a solid day by qualifying into Saturday's finals in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles.  She advanced with the fourth-fastest time in the 100 (15.11) and seventh in the 400 (1:05.87).  Both times were a season-best.

The team's all-freshmen 4x800 relay of Wren Klump, Kristen Casbon, Kaylynne Bechen and Latrice Hodges came in sixth at 9:58.98.  Kylie Johnston missed out on the finals of both the 100 and 200 by less than a second.

BVU will look to close out the championships with a strong day on Saturday as action is scheduled to get underway with field events at 10:00 a.m. followed by the start of running events at 1:30 p.m.
