Wartburg College led 2-0 at the break and added four late second-half goals on Tuesday night to break the American Rivers Conference match wide open en route to a 7-0 victory over the Beavers.
The two sides battled through rainy, sloppy and breezy conditions inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, but it was the Knights who were able to get more of a push offensively throughout the contest. The visitors had six players with multiple shots in the match as they finished with a 26-3 margin. Senior McKenna Whitehill registered all three shots for the Beavers, including two on-goal, but the team was not able to get many good scoring looks.
Wartburg got on the board midway through the first half on a ball that was knocked down by McKeely Tjaden, but she couldn't keep possesion of it as she went to the ground, and the Knights were able to tap it in for a 1-0 lead. Then eight minutes later they doubled the score, and that's how things stood as both teams left the field to try and warm up and dry off from the continuous rainfall.
The Knights scored the first goal during the 58' before adding two more over the next seven minutes to make it a 5-0 contest. They then added a pair of goals over a two-minute span as the match approached the final four minutes.
Tjaden went the distance in-goal for BVU, tallying 12 total saves.
Buena Vista is now 1-10 on the year (0-4 A-R-C) and will go back on the road Friday evening for a 5:00 p.m. contest at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
