The Buena Vista women's soccer team was on the road for the first time this season, and the Beavers will return home with its first victory under its belt after scoring a pair of second half goals to edge Martin Luther, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon up in New Ulm, Minn.\
Both defenses were tough in the early going as neither team was able to find the back of the net over the first 45:00 of play. BVU did have 13 shots in the first half, including six on goal, but couldn't squeeze out its first goal of the year. Coogler, however, changed that just under five minutes into the second half when she notched the team's first goal as well as her first collegiate goal.
BVU kept Martin Luther in check throughout the second half as well, limiting the Knights to only two shots on-goal, before Valeria Cota took a pass from Ella Wiebusch in the final minutes and punched it through for a big insurance goal with just over two minutes left to play.
Katie Voortmann went the distance in-goal and registered seven saves and her first career shutout.
Buena Vista is now 1-2 overall and looks to carry that momentum into Sunday's non-conference home match against visiting Grinnell College. Kick-off inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium is set for 1:00 p.m.
