The Buena Vista women's soccer team took a 1-0 lead before Simpson rallied late to force OT, and then in the second extra period, the Storm scored within the first three minutes to hand BVU a heartbreaking, 2-1, setback in an Iowa Conference match-up on Saturday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium.
The two teams were nearly even all match long with each posting 14 shots, inclduing a combined 21 shots on-goal.
Buena Vista broke a scoreless game when Claire Arganbright scored her first goal of the year on her only shot attempt of the day late in the 54'. The lead lasted for only 15 minutes, however, as the Storm responded with a goal from Maddie Simmons before Simmons assisted on the game-winner three minutes into the period.
Caroline Maher finished with seven shots, including four on-goal for the Beavers.
Rachel Novotny took the hard-luck loss in-goal, despite saving 10 shots.
Buena Vista falls to 2-10-1 overall (0-3 IIAC) while the Storm improve to 4-9 (1-3 IIAC). BVU returns to action on Tuesday afternoon for a road match at Wartburg College starting at 5:00pm.
