DECORAH - Buena Vista got wins from Collin Stilson, Brad Kerkhoff and Shane Vaughan, but it was Luther College scoring bonus points in six of its seven victories en route to a 34-10 American Rivers Conference victory on Friday night inside of the Regents Center.
Luther led 9-0 before Stilson got the Beavers on the board at 141 pounds. He scored a pair of takedowns in the first period, including one just as the buzzer sounded to take a 4-1 lead. He then held off a late rally and hung on for a 6-4 victory.
The Norse then won consecutive matches to extend their lead to 19-3 before Kerkhoff kept BVU within striking distance with an 11-4 victory at 165 pounds. After falling behind 2-0 early in the first period, Kerkhoff took control of the match en route to his 24th victory of the year.
Vaughan made it two straight wins for the Beavers and got the team back within 19-10 with three matches to go. He used a pair of big nearfall points to break things open and pick up the team's only bonus point of the night in an 11-2 major decision for his 18th win.
Luther closed the door with three straight wins as the Norse finished the conference season at 4-4 while the Beavers had their two-match win streak halted and finish at 2-6.
The team will compete at the Central College Last Chance Invitational on Saturday, February 9, and then be off until the Lower Midwest Regional on February 23-25 inside the Five Flags Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
