Buena Vista University head wrestling coach Mark Rial will be one of seven inductees enshrined into the 2019 Iowa High School Wrestling Hall of Fame on February 16, 2019, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Rial was a four time state qualifier and three-time finalist at Fort Dodge High School from 1993-96. He went 115-2 over his last three seasons which included 90 falls and eight technical falls en route to state titles in both 1994 and 1996. He later went on to wrestle collegiately at the University of Northern Iowa where he was a three-year starter, and later qualified for five national teams in Greco, including a 2008 national title and 2009 runner-up World Team Trials finish.
Joining Rial in this year's Hall of Fame Class are wrestlers, Trent Goodale (Osage), Jimmy Rodgers (Oakland Riverside), Merle Roths (New Hampton), Josh Watts (Davenport Assumption) and coaches Mark Bertsch (Newman Catholic, Mason City) and Bill Plein (Columbus Junction).
Rial is in his first season as head coach at Buena Vista.
