Vaughan needed just 26 seconds to advance into the quarterfinal round at 165 pounds before he came up just short of the semifinals after a 6-4 loss to South Dakota State's Kenny O'Neil. He did bounce back in the consolation round with back-to-back pins and settled for sixth after an 8-5 loss.
Kerkhoff placed seventh at 165 after going 4-2 on the day. He suffered a tough 13-7 to South Dakota's Logan Peterson in his first match of the day before rolling to three straight wins, including a pin and technical fall. He then had to face Peterson again the consolation semifinals and suffered a 16-4 setback. Kerkhoff closed out the day with a 9-5 decision.
Preul also rallied back on the consolation side after suffering an 11-4 loss in his first match of the day. He received a bye in his first consolation bout, followed by a an 8-3 decision and a 5-3 sudden victory.
Dylan Huntoon went 3-1 on the day, including a pair of pins and a thrilling 3-2 decision in his final match of the day.
The Beavers will be back in action on Friday, December 7, when they travel to Cedar Rapids to take on Coe College in an American Rivers Conference dual starting at 7:00 p.m.
