Women's Golf in Good Position at Midway Point of IIAC Championships

A day after posting its lowest team score at the Iowa Conference Championships since 2009, the Buena Vista women's golf team came back out on Saturday for round two and bettered that score by one stroke, despite dipping one spot to seventh after 36 holes.

Freshman Raelinn Arnold is third overall and just two shots back of second following a round of 80.  Junior Emily Kim isn't far back after posting her season-low round of 81, including a birdie on the par-five second.  She'll enter the final weekend tied for 12th and just two strokes back of being in the top-10.

Graysen Mechler carded an 87 which was three shots off her opening round score, but head coach Mike Jamieson was pleased how she continued to battle despite mishitting some shots throughout the day.

"I am really proud of how she stayed so positive despite struggling a bit hitting the ball today," said Jamieson. "She ended with a few great pars, including a spectacular up-and-down from the bunker on 18."

Mechler is tied for 23rd after 36 holes but just four shots back of being in 16th.

Katelyn shaved four shots off her first 18 holes and was just off her career-best round.

Buena Vista shot a 348 for the day but slipped one spot after Nebraska Wesleyan shot a 331 after an opening-round 350.  The Beavers are 16 shots back of the Prairie Wolves and 17 back of Dubuque.

Wartburg's Brooke Klostermann is your clubouse leader at the midway point with a 150.  She has a six-shot advantage over Luther's Sam Kraft.

Central College overtook the Knights for the team lead after 36 holes by firing a 317 on Saturday.  The Knights are just two shots back heading into the final weekend.

The final 36 holes will take place next Friday and Saturday at Indianola Country Club in Indianola, Iowa.  Friday's action gets underway at 10:00am.
