Beavers Remain Winless in A-R-C Play Following 86-77 Loss at Dubuque

Holly Schneider matched a career-high with 21 points and Hannah Appleseth finished with a career-high of 20 points, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team couldn't overcome a balanced Spartans' attack, as Dubuque handed BVU an 86-77 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Schneider and Appleseth combined to go 16-of-24 from the field with Appleseth making a career-best four three-point buckets.  It was her first career double-digit scoring game.  Schneider also hauled in 10 rebounds for her third career double-double.

Jennifer Schnedier came off the bench and matched a career-high with 16 points while Destiny Einerwold chipped in with 10 points.

The Beavers made a season-high 10 three-point shots and finished the game shooting 39 percent from the field overall.

Dubuque had an answer for BVU all game long, going 10-of-18 from long range and matching the Beavers with 28 made field goals.  A big difference in the game was at the free-throw line as Dubuque made 20 free-throws while the Beavers attempted only 19.

BVU trailed 46-36 at the half but cut that deficit in half heading to the fourth.  The Beavers were able to get as close as four points on multiple occassions early in the final period, but couldn't pull any closer.  The Spartans went back up by 11 midway through the period and led by as many as 12.  Holly Schneider made a three-pointer with 14 seconds left that made it a six-point contest, but Dubuque (3-13, 1-6 A-R-C) hit its free-throws to secure its first conference win of the year.

Buena Vista falls to 5-11 overall and remains winless at 0-7 inside of conference play.  The team closes out the first half of the league schedule on January 16 by hosting No. 16 Wartburg College.  It will also be Community Night for BVU with all fans admitted to the game free of charge.  Free popcorn will also be handed out along with various prizes.  Tip-off inside of Siebens Fieldhouse is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
