Beavers Fall Short on the Road at Loras 73-62

DUBUQUE - Buena Vista had four starters score in double figures at Loras College on Thursday night, but that would not be quite enough as the Duhawks finished strong and picked up a 73-62 American Rivers Conference victory over the Beavers inside of the Athletics and Wellness Center.

Sophomore Erin Gerke helped lead the charge with 13 points and matched a career-high with six steals.  Seniors Holly Schneider and Morgan Muhlbauer eached turned in 12 points, five rebounds and three assists while junior Destiny Einerwold chipped in with 12 points while matching a career-high with eight made free-throws.

The Beavers started the game strong, shooting better than 43 percent from the field in the first half.  They led 22-21 after the first quarter before the Duhawks finished the second half strong and took a slim 36-34 lead into the locker room.  Loras then came out and started the second half by scoring eight of the game's first 11 points and went on to outscore the Beavers by seven in the period and take a nine-point lead to the fourth.

Buena Vista was able to get within 64-56 with three minutes left in regulation, but that was as close as the team would get from there.

Loras (6-3, 2-1 A-R-C) was 7-of-20 from downtown and finished at 45.6 percent from the field overall.  Kari Fitpatrick helped lead the charge with a double-double of 20 points and 1 rebounds.  Riley Eckhart followed with 19 points and 11 boards.

Buena Vista drops to 4-6 overall (0-3 A-R-C) and will now be off until it travels out to Las Vegas, Nev., for the Classic on December 28 and 29.  The Beavers will face Gettysburg at 12:00 p.m. CSt on December 28th.
