The Dana Christen era got off to a positive start on Saturday afternoon for the Buena Vista women's basketball team, as the Beavers pulled away with a big fourth quarter to notch a 63-46 road victory at Iowa Wesleyan University.
Holly Schneider had a double for BVU, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds while also adding three steals. Morgan Muhlbauer had 14 points and seven rebounds and McKenna Whitehill chipped in with eight points on 3-of-3 shooting.
BVU held a 44-27 edge on the glass and scored 35 points off turnovers. The team never trailed and led by by as many as 18 late in the fourth quarter.
The game was close throughout the game with the Beavers leading 14-6 after the first quarter and 23-18 at the half. It was still a seven-point margin through three quarters (41-34) before BVU outscored the Tigers 22-12 in the final frame.
The Beavers shot just 34 percent from the field overall and was 3-of-20 from downtown.
Darby Massner, a Second Team All-Conference selection for the Tigers a year ago, led Iowa Wesleyan (0-1) with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Buena Vista (1-0) will now take part in the Wheaton College Tournament next Friday and Saturday. It will begin play against Hanover on Friday with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
