Women's Basketball Looks to Rebound on Saturday against the Duhawks

After having its season-long four-game win streak snapped at the University of Dubuque on Wednesday night, the Buena Vista women's basketball team looks to start a new streak on Saturday when it hosts Loras College in Iowa Conference action.

Game Notes:

-- IIAC Recognition: Claudia Larsen was named the Co-IIAC Performer of the Week for the second straight week.  Prior to her consecutive recognitions, BVU had not had a performer of the week since Malarie Gilley back on January 5, 2014.

-- Second Chance Opportunities: Buena Vista has 10-plus offensive rebounds in all but three games this season.  It turned in a season-high 18 against Dubuque on Wednesday night.

-- Narrow Decisions: The last four games played against Loras have been decided by five points or less.

-- Career Night: Senior Jasmine Demers scored a career-high 32 points at Dubuque on Wednesday night, and her 15 rebounds were just two shy of her career-best of 17.  She's now posted a career-best three straight double-doubles.


Last Time Out: The Beavers had their four‐game win streak snapped on Wednesday night with a tough 82‐73 road loss at the University of Dubuque. Jasmine Demers scored a career‐high 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. The Spartans outscored BVU, 30‐14, in the second quarter after the Beavers entered the quarter with a nine‐point lead.

The Duhawks dropped their second straight game on Wednesday night, falling at home to Nebraska Wesleyan, 81-78.

About Loras: Addie Oberman is the only player averaging double figures in scoring overall (12.3ppg). During IIAC play, she turns in 10.8ppg while Marissa Schroeder is right behind at 10.2ppg. The team has shown some balance offensively with five players averaging at least 7.8ppg. As a team during league play, the Duhawks are ninth in scoring at 62.7ppg while allowing 71.0ppg. The team is fifth in rebounding (39.3rpg) and are holding teams to just 36.5rpg which is second‐best. Loras was picked third in this year's preseason poll with three starters returning from last season's squad that finished 17‐10 overall (10‐6 IIAC) and took third. Among those returning is Second Team All‐IIAC selection, Cyerra Hutchins, who averaged nearly 12.0ppg and 7.0rpg. Entering today, she's scoring 8.1ppg and 7.6rpg.

About BVU: Demers is now leading the league in scoring during IIAC play at 21.3ppg and in rebounding at 10.5rpg. Morgan Muhlbauer is seventh in scoring at 17.0ppg and fifth in rebounding at 7.4rpg. Claudia Larsen is second behind Demers in rebounding during league play at 8.4rpg and is third in assists (4.8apg) and first in blocks (3.0bpg). BVU is third in scoring as a team (76.2ppg) and in scoring defense (70.6ppg). It also sits third in field goal percentage (.445) and is second in three‐point shooting (.363). Larsen enters the game with 42 blocks on the year which is now fifth on the program's single‐season list. She is one away from matching her total of last season which was fourth‐most. Her 85 career blocks are currently fifth‐most all‐time. Next on the list is Jennifer Erickson (1992‐96) who had 99. Demers takes the court needing two rebounds for 400 and is 78 points away from 800.
