STORM LAKE - Buena Vista University sophomore third baseman Kate Lesmeister has been named the American Rivers Conference Softball Position Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Lesmeister had a big week at the plate for BVU, reaching base 10 times over the course of four games as the Beavers went 4-0. She hit a team-leading .625 for the week (5-for-8) with a pair of doubles, a home run and a team-high seven RBI. She also walked five times and had 10 total bases.
She was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and three RBI in game one of Saturday's doubleheader against Lake Forest. Her double in the first inning plated a pair of runs and tied the score at 2-2 before she later doubled home a run in the fifth to extend the team's lead to 5-1.
In game two of that doubleheader, she was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and one RBI as the Beavers went on to complete the sweep with a 5-1 victory.
On Sunday, Lesmeister blasted a two-run homerun during the Beavers' six-run first inning against Lakeland en route to a 9-1 triumph in five innings. The round-tripper was the team's first longball of the year and the fifth of her career. She wrapped up the weekend with a hit and one RBI during a 5-1 win over Concordia-Wisconsin. She now leads the A-R-C with eight RBI on the year.
It's the first career honor for Lesmeister and the first since Carlee Guyett did so on April 22, 2018.
Buena Vista moves to 5-3 on the year and will return to the state of Illinois on March 9-10 to play four more games. The team is scheuled to face UW-Stevens Point and Augustana (Ill.) on Saturday before finishing with a doubleheader against Eureka on Sunday.
