The Buena Vista softball team has a pair of First Team All-Iowa Conference players this season as the teams were announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Junior Keely Bycroft was voted a First Team utility player while Schmidt was voted First Team designated player.
Bycroft split time between the pitching circle and first base for the Beavers in 2017. She ranked fifth in the league in batting average during IIAC play (.451) and also scored 14 times. She had at least one hit in 13 of the team's 16 conference contests, including a four-game hit streak to end the year. Eight of her 23 base knocks went for extra bases and she struck out just four times in 53 plate appearances.
On the mound, the left hander picked up four wins and pitched 46.2 innings, including a 10-inning complete game victory in the league opener against Loras.
Bycroft earns all-conference recognition for the second straight season after also being a member of the first team in 2016. She becomes the program's first two-time First Team selection since BVU Hall of Famer Andi Royster in 1996 and 1997.
Schmidt is also a two-time all-conference performer after being named to the Second Team in 2015. The senior spent the majority of the year as the team's designated player and turned in yet another solid season with her bat. She hit .365 during league play and drove in 15 runs - a total that was fifth in the IIAC.
The Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, native also walked six times and struck out only once in 58 plate appearances against IIAC pitching. She blasted the walk-off grand slam to give BVU a 7-5 victory at home over Simpson to complete the DH sweep of the Storm on April 17.
Buena Vista has now registered at least a pair of First Team selections in consecutive seasons for the first time since doing so in four straight years from 1993-1996.
The Beavers went 8-8 during league play and finished the year at 20-17 overall.
