Rohlk Sets School Record in Weight Throw at Darren Young Classic

For the second time this season, senior Garrett Rohlk has broken the school's weight throw record with his heave of 16.90m on Saturday to help highlight the day for the Buena Vista men's track and field team during the Darren Young Classic, hosted by Grinnell College.

Rohlk took third in the event and currently ranks fourth in the Iowa Conference in the event and in the top-35 in Division III.  Fellow senior Brennan Dostal, who made his season debut a week ago, placed eighth in a loaded field of 60-meter dash runners.  He crossed in a time of 7.33 seconds.  He also took eighth in the 400 meter dash with all top-eight finishers within one second of each other.

Chase Bonner and Drew Beall placed fifth and sixth, respectivley, in the shot put with Beall also taking sixth in the weight throw.

"I'm very proud of Garrett Rohlk for his performance today!" said head coach Colt Slack.  "He had a great week of practice and was ready to compete. We saw a lot of conference competitors today, and he showed up and finished third! Our men's shot putters scored seven points for us, and Brennan Dostal had a full plate but managed to tack on some points to our men's total!"

"Sam McCain and Jeremiah Rice scored some points in the triple jump despite lots of events to balance!" Slack added.  "Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the effort put forth today."

Buena Vista returns home to its own track to compete in next weekend's Junior College Regional Championships on Friday and Saturday inside of the Lamberti Rec Center.  That'll be the team's final tune-up before the IIAC championships in two weeks.
