Senior Kyle Wessling moved up one spot and finished fourth in the decathlon which concluded on Friday afternoon inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium, and he was the high finisher on the day for the Buena Vista men's track team during the first full day of the Iowa Conference Championships, hosted by BVU.
Wessling won the javelin throw which boosted him into fourth, but he was unable to climb up from their with only the 1500m run left. He totaled 6,081 points and was 227 points back of all-conference accolades.
Senior Ben Sampson ran his fastest time of the year in the 800m prelims and qualified seventh into Saturday's final with a time of 1:54.37. He was only 1.02 seconds off the fastest prelim time.
Justin Sacker will run in the finals of the 400m hurdles after he ran 55.91 to qualify fourth. He came in ranked fourth in the IIAC.
Brennan Dostal was just off his best time in the 200m, but it was still enough to qualify him sixth into Saturday's finals.
Garrett Rohlk scored points for the Beavers in the hammer throw by placing seventh with a personal best toss of 49.15m. That surpassed his previous best by nearly 1.5 meters.
The Beavers totaled 16 points on the day and are in ninth overall. They are, however, just 15 points back from a tie for fourth place.
Final day action on the BVU campus will get underway at 10:00am on Saturday with the remaining field events. The first running events are scheduled for 1:00pm with the final one slated for 4:45pm.
