The Buena Vista men's tennis team swept through the three doubles matches to get things started and never looked back on Thursday evening, as the Beavers rolled to a non-conference win over visiting Northwestern College (IA) out on the Buntrock Tennis Courts.
John Foss and Jake Thompson teamed up at No. 1 doubles for the first time this season and picked up an 8-1 decision. Aaron Pluym and Aaron Mum were also playing together for the first time at No. 2 and notched a convincing 8-3 triumph while Cole Goslar and Andrew Boell secured an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep.
BVU kept rolling from there, picking up straight set victories with Foss at No. 1, Thompson at No. 3, Mumm at No. 5 and Goslar at No. 6. That group allowed more than two points in just one set.
Foss and Thompson picked up their team-leading eighth overall singles wins of the year, while Goslar secured his first.
"This was a nice bounce-back night for the team and a great win from top to bottom," said head coach Brett Groen. "We needed this win as we look to finish the conference season out with Dubuque on Sunday. We mixed up the line-ups a bit tonight to give us some different looks and different types of games to put out there in doubles, and for the short term, it paid off."
The Beavers improve to 5-12 on the year, and will now wrap up their season on Sunday afternoon when they host the University of Dubuque at 10:00am.
