The Buena Vista men's tennis team returned home on Tuesday afternoon and hosted Iowa Central Community College in a non-conference match outside on Buntrock Tennis Courts.
Playing under sunny skies and more spring-like conditions, the Beavers were unable to get into sync against the Tritons, as they fell 9-0 for their fourth straight loss.
John Foss nearly gave the team an early win at No. 1 doubles, but came up on the short-end of a 9-8 setback. Iowa Central took the other two by 8-1 scores.
BVU struggled in singles play, getting shutout in three of the six singles matches after Foss dropped a hard fought No. 1 bout by scores of 7-5, 6-4.
"After what was a really good week and weekend of tennis in the 10 days prior, I was a little disappointed in our fight and performance tonight," said head coach Brett Groen. "We had a great opportunity at number one doubles to get us on the board, but a few missed shots and missed opportunities late in the match cost Aaron and John in the tiebreaker. John came back and played a great match at number one singles falling into tight sets to a very good player. Iowa Central controlled most of the matches after that. A night like this gives us opportunities to find things to work on and to fine-tune a few things to give us better chances at better matches."
Buena Vista looks to get back on track on Saturday, April 14, when it plays Iowa Conference matches at Wartburg (9am) and at Luther (3pm).
