Men's Tennis Splits a Pair of Home Matches on Saturday

The Buena Vista men's tennis team was back in action on Saturday and picked up its second straight Iowa Conference victory by topping Loras College, 8-1, before dropping a tough 5-4 non-conference match with Cornell College.

BVU was in cruise control against the Duhawks, winning all three doubles matches to build a 3-0 lead before winning four of its five singles matches in straight sets.

The Beavers took two of three doubles matches against the Rams to take the lead going into singles play where things got exciting.

Three of the six singles bouts went to third-set tiebreakers, and BVU was able to pick up wins in two of them.  Chris Habermann rallied after dropping the first set to win his number one match with Justin Buzzard hanging on after dropping his second set to fight back and win the third.

The Rams were able to squeak out a 6-1 win in the third set at number four, and would go on to win four of the six singles matches.

Buena Vista is now 3-4 overall (2-2 IIAC) and will return to the courts on March 15 when the team hosts Coe College (9:00am) and Grand View (5:00pm).
