Beavers Edged Late at Home by Wartburg, 1-0, on Tuesday Night

It was a battle from start to finish with both teams giving it all they had on Tuesday night, despite dealing with a good amount of rain, wind and cold temperatures inside of J. Leslie Rollins. However, it was Wartburg getting a late goal off a corner kick with under 3:00 left in regulation of a 1-0 contest.

Despite Wartburg tallying significantly more shots than Buena Vista in the contest, the Knights were unable to get anything past Beaver goalkeeper Manuel Garcia Aguilar, who chalked up 11 total saves.  He was helped out by a strong defensive front for BVU that didn't allow Wartburg the chance at many clean looks.

Wartburg (8-5, 4-1 A-R-C) held a 13-5 margin in shots during the first 45 minutes but the match went into halftime tied 0-0.  It stood that way throughout the second half as the rain came down heavy at times during the period.  BUV was held to only one shot in the period, and it came down to a converted corner kick for the Knights with just 2:31 left in regulation.

From there, the Beavers were unable to get the ball deep into Knights territory, as the team suffered its eighth one-goal defeat of the season.

Gum Riak and David Arona each had two shots for BVU which totaled just six overall.

"Our guys played their hearts off tonight," said head coach Ben McArthur.  "We were focused and played with great pride.  These guys are hungry to compete in conference play and we will look to improve heading into Friday.  The conference has no easy games and we need to buckle down and try to get some points.  Kevin Edgar and Ryan Exline played great games for us in the back."

Buena Vista is now 0-12-1 on the year (0-3-1 A-R-C) and looks to get into the win column and keep a chance at a conference tournament berth alive when it travels to Coe College (0-10-1, 0-4 A-R-C) on Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. contest in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
