The Buena Vista men's soccer team went on the road for the first time this season for an afternoon road match at Cornell College on Sunday, but the bounces just weren't going the Beavers' way as they dropped a tough 4-1 decision to the Rams.
Cornell went out in front first with a penalty kick just 2:08 into the contest. BVU didn't trail long before tying things up on a goal by freshman Gor Riak on a nice assist by his brother, Gum.
That's how things stood until just seconds before the end of the first half. That's when BVU was called for another foul inside the box leading to a second Cornell penalty kick of the contest.
After scoring to end the first half, the Rams added to their lead just three minutes into the second half before adding a late insurance goal.
"It was a tough day for our team," said head coach Ben McArthur. "Everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. We didn't get any bounces go our way. We gave up two penalty kicks. At times we looked but couldn't overcome some mental mistakes. Sam McLachlan played really well for us an John Maher came off the bench and have us a nice boost. We'll now shift our focus and try and be prepared for Dordt on Wednesday."
Buena Vista is now 0-2 on the year and will host Dordt College on Wednesday evening at 6:00pm.
