Noah Bardwell scored his fifth goal of the year late in the 88', but it was too-little-too-late for Buena Vista on Wednesday afternoon, as the Beavers fell to the Dutch in an Iowa Conference match, 2-1.
Central built a 2-0 halftime lead with a pair of goals just two minutes apart midway through the first half. That's how things stood until Bardwell took passes from Jared Dow and Christian Carillo to cut the deficit in half late.
BVU got the ball down just outside the box deep in Dutch territory, but had a shot blocked and a cross pass headed out of bounce just before time expired.
Central held a 19-5 edge in total shots, including a 9-2 margin in shots-on-goal.
Five different players turned in a shot for the Beavers, who lost by a single goal for the fifth time this season. All but two of the team's 11 setbacks on the year have been by two goals or less.
Bardwell is now tied with Willy Salamanca for the team lead in goals this season.
Buena Vista is now 4-11-1 overall (1-5 IIAC) and will return to the field this Saturday night when it wraps up its home schedule as the University of Dubuque comes to town for a 7:30 p.m. match.
