Men's Basketball Improves to 8-2 with Win against La Verne

David Jeffries scored a team-high 15 points and dished out eight assists while Timothy Jeffries added 12 points and five rebounds, and the Buena Vista men's basketball team notched its third straight win with a commanding 82-52 victory against the University of La Verne on Thursday afternoon out in San Dimas, Calif.

The elder Jeffries went 6-of-10 from the field with Timothy going 5-of-7 as they were the only starters in double figures.  Sophomore Billy Sparks came off the bench and made 4-of-6 from downtown en route to 12 points.  Overall, the Beavers had seven players score at least six points in the contest.  As a team, BVU was 45.5 percent from the field, including 9-of-25 from long range.

The Beavers jumped out to a 20-6 lead midway through the first half and never looked back.  They extended it to 38-17 with under 5:00 left in the half before taking a 46-24 advantage into the break.

Timothy Jeffries and Thomas Wisecup hit back-to-back three-point shots early in the second half to make it 55-26, and La Verne was never able to make any sort of run from there.

Defensively, BVU was tough all game long, forcing 24 turnovers and holding La Verne to only 31 percent shooting from the field.

Buena Vista moves to 8-2 on the year and will look to close out its non-conference schedule with a fourth straight win as it tips-off against Caltech (3-6) on Friday night at 7:00pm (CST).
