Beavers set to Host Loras on Homecoming

The Buena Vista football team looks to break into the win column for the first time in American Rivers Conference play, and the Beavers have their next chance on Saturday when it hosts Loras College on Homecoming.  In addition to all the Homecoming festivities, its also Hall of Fame Day for BVU with five new inductees being enshrined during halftime ceremonies.

Loras -  The Duhawks had their two-game overall win streak snapped last Saturday at home to cross-city rival, Dubuque, 49-42, as the Spartans scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns, including a 50-yard fumble recovery for the go-ahead score with 29 seconds left.  Through its first two American Rivers Conference games, the Duhawks rank second in the league in total offense per game (478.0), despite allowing a league-high 544 yards per contest.  The team averages just under 230 yards rushing per outing (second in A-R-C) and is passing for 252.0ypg (fourth in A-R-C).  Defensively, the Duhawks have allowed an average of 243.0 rushing yards and 301.0 passing yards.  Cody Mighell (75.0) and Noah Sigwarth (65.5) give a balanced attack on the ground with Sigwarth also producing with his arm at a clip of 190.2 yards per game.  He's completing just over 47 percent of his pass attempts for 761 yards and eight touchdowns.  Alex Wernimont is the team's leading tackler at 28 total stops with Chris Miller registering 6.5 tackles for a loss and is right behind Wernimont with 24.5 total tackles.

Buena Vista -  BVU has dropped four straight games overall since a season-opening victory and has allowed over 60 points in two of its last three.  Through their first three conference outings, the Beavers are averaging just over 250 yards of total offense.  They did get more of a ground game going a week ago at Central, rushing for a season-high 211 yards.  Cole Miller threw a pair of touchdown passes in the contest and moves within two of matching Rollie Wiebers (49) for second on the program's all-time list.  He's completing 50 percent of his attempts on the year for 1,008 yards and nine scores.  Eric Pacheco has hauled in a team-high 29 catches for 598 yards and seven touchdowns.  Reed Kruse has a team-leading 36.5 total tackles on the year with Colby Laughlin next at 28.  Gary Weaver is third on the list with 23.5 but leads the team and ranks third in the league in tackles for loss with eight.  He and Quamaree Harris are tied for second in sacks with four.
