Buena Vista junior quarterback helped lead the Buena Vista football team to a dramatic overtime win against visiting Central College on Saturday afternoon, and for his efforts, has been named the Iowa Conference Male Athlete of the Week.
Miller was effective both through the air and on the ground but did most of his damage with his arm. He completed 26-of-42 pass attempts for 358 yards and three touchdowns. His 358 yards are tied for the sixth-most by a BVU signal caller in school history and the third-highest total by any other quarterback in the league this season. His first passing touchdown of the game was a 67-yard strike to freshman Jeremiah Rice which tied the game at 7-7 late in the first quarter. He now has a passing touchdown of at least 60 yards in each of the team's first two contests and is currently leading the IIAC in passing yards per contest (338.0).
The signal caller's third score of the day came in overtime when he connected with junior Jordan Travis from 14 yards out, pulling BVU within 38-37, leading up to the dramatic 2-pt conversion that gave the Beavers a 39-38 home victory over the Dutch. The win was the first for BVU in the series since 2012 and only the third since 1980. Miller also had a one-yard passing touchdown, as well as a one-yard touchdown run.
It's the third player to earn weekly recognition already this season for the team, and the first career honor for Miller.
Buena Vista moves to 2-0 on the year (1-0 IIAC) and will travel to Loras College (1-2, 0-1 IIAC) on Saturday for a 1:00pm kick-off inside the Rock Bowl.
