STORM LAKE - The Buena Vista baseball team earned an automatic berth into the NCAA DIII Regional Tournament after winning its third conference championship in school history this past weekend. The Beavers will take on the top-seed and second-ranked Concordia-Chicago on Friday at 10 a.m.

BVU's last appearance into NCAA postseason play was in 2014 when it also earned an automatic berth and played in a regional hosted by Augustana College (Ill.) in Rock Island. The team picked up a 7-1 opening round win over St. Scholastica before falling to St. Thomas (11-5) and Rose-Hulman (4-3, 13 innings).
About Buena Vista:
The Beavers look to keep things going after coming off a conference championship. Bryce Rheault continues to have a great year leading the team with a .389 batting average and 22 base on balls. He also leads the team with 68 hits, only three behind the school single-season record. With the 68 hits, it ranks him 24th in the country for hits this season. Peyton Renning leads the team with 31 RBI and in doubles (13). Tyler Tennyson is right behind with 12 two-baggers while Nick Henrichs has 10. Henrichs leads the team in homeruns with three. The pitching for the Beavers has been the story as of late, allowing just one total run over their last five games. Egan Bonde leads the team with 65.1 innings pitched on the year and six wins. Gage Smart leads the country in hits allowed per 9 innings (3.36) and in WHIP (0.68). He is also ranked high in the country (11th) with eight saves and with a 1.21 ERA that sits ninth. His eight saves have him in a tie for second all-time for a single-season in BVU history.
About Concordia Chicago:
The Cougars enter the Regional Tournament ranked second in the nation and will be hosting this regional pool. Brody Mariotti leads the team hits 12 homeruns this season and Bryan VanDuser leads the team with a .380 batting average and 62 hits on the year. Connor Brandon has drove in 58 runs and the speed of Jose Mercado finds himself leading the country in stolen bases with 43 out of 45 on the year. Cole Carman leads the team in both innings pitched with 59.1 as well as seven wins. Mike Tobin leads the team with seven saves and a 1.69 ERA on the year. Alex Crinigan has 46 strikeouts on the year which leads the team.
About Baldwin Wallace:
The Yellow Jackets finished the season with a record of 25-15. Alex Ludwick finished the season with six triples to lead the team. Philip Wells had a good year at the plate leading the team with 56 hits, 45 RBIs, and was .366 at the plate. He also was tied with Sam Sustersic with two homeruns this season. Kyle Pennington had 24 base on balls and tied with Reese Albright with 14 stolen bases. Nick Smith leads the pitching staff with a 1.79 ERA. Danny Cody led the team in innings pitched with 76.2 and picked up nine wins on the year. He also led the team with 103 strikeouts.
About St. John's:
The Johnnies finished the season strong winning 7 of the last 10 games on the year and winning a conference championship. Wyatt Ulrich leads the team with 56 hits and 38 runs on the season with five of those hits being triples. Joey Stock has help lead the team in batting with a .366 average, 12 homeruns and 38 RBIs on the year. He also has an on-base percentage of .471 which leads the team. Jack Wingerd has the most stolen bases on the team with 24. Jack Dickmeyer is their best pitcher this year, pitching 72 innings and only having a 1.75 ERA.
