STORM LAKE - Buena Vista University senior pitcher Egan Bonde was rewarded for his strong pitching performance on the mound over the weekend by being named the American Rivers Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Making his final career home start on Saturday in game one of a doubleheader against the University of Dubuque, the senior lefty pitched a complete-game, five-hit shutout as the Beavers went on to defeat the Spartans in seven innings, 11-0. All five hits he allowed were singles and he did not allow a single baserunner to reach third base in the contest. He also matched a season-high with five strikeouts while pushing his season record to 5-1 overall.
The win secured BVU at least a top-3 overall finish in the conference standings where it went on to also win game two of the twinbill and secure the second-seed into this week's American Rivers Conference Tournament.
It's the first time that Bonde has earned such recognition in his career and the first Beaver hurler to do so this season. The last BVU pitcher to land the honor was Jacob Hadaway in the first week of the 2017 campaign.
Buena Vista is 22-17 overall and finished at 15-9 in conference play. Bonde and the rest of the Beavers will play its first conference tournament game on Thursday afternoon, May 9, at 2:00 p.m. against the winner of third-seed Luther and sixth-seed Loras.
