Insides the Series:
This will be the first meeting of the year for these teams. The two schools have played against each other since 1961, where the Beavers hold a winning record all-time over Dubuque, 82-34. In the last three years of matching up, Buena Vista has won 7 of the 10 games played.
About Buena Vista:
The Beavers look to keep it going after winning the last three series over conference opponents - Luther, Nebraska Wesleyan, and Wartburg. The Beavers want to keep taking advantage of being at home where they have won the last seven home games. BVU is ranked fourth in the conference right behind Dubuque who is in third going into this weekend series. Bryce Rheault is having a great year finding himself leading the conference in triples with 4, hits with 58, and 44 runs scored. He finds himself in second place with 20 stolen bases and in second while batting .384 at the plate. Peyton Renning has been hitting the ball well, finding himself tied with three other players for second in the conference with 51 hits. Gage Smart has been the team's top reliever, finding himself leading the conference with a .127 opponent batting average against him. He is also in second with a 1.47 era on the year and in third place with five saves.
The Spartans have been playing very well in the last ten games going 9-1 to help them get series wins over conference opponents Central, Loras, and Nebraska Wesleyan. They come into this weekend wanting to keep the number three spot in the conference or possibly move up if Luther is to lose a couple games in their last weekend series. Kellen Mitchell looks to keep things going as he leads the conference with a .516 on base percentage. Spartans pitching has been tough which has put Chase Kueter in second with seven wins on the year. Nathan Schneiderman finds himself leading the conference with a 0.97 era on the year which has helped him get to second with six saves. Thomas Kempf is tied for third in conference with 32 RBI's this year.
Both Buena Vista and Dubuque will be headed to Cedar Rapids to compete for a conference championship. The conference playoffs will start on Thursday May 9th and go thru May 11.
