Loras jumped on Buena Vista pitching from the early going of the series finale on Tuesday afternoon played in Storm Lake, and the Duhawks completed the sweep of the Beavers with a 16-1 (7 inning) victory.
BVU committed a fielding error on the first pitch of the game which led to an unearned run in the inning, and Loras never looked back from there. The Duhawks scored three times in the second, twice in the third and used a grand slam in the fourth to break the game open at 11-0. The fifth inning was the only time the visitors were retired in order, as they pounded out 12 hits in the game and did not commit and error.
BVU got lead-off singles in the second and third innings, but could not get a runner to second base until Devin Wagenman doubled to lead off the seventh. Alex Savary then pinch hit and drove him in with an RBI single into right center for the team's only run. Wagenman finished the contest with two of BVU's five hits.
Loras, which outscored BVU 45-8 in the series, added a run in the sixth and four more in the seventh.
Nick Henrich's made his first career start on the mound and was charged with six runs on five hits in just three innings. He walked two and struck out two. Tate Holmes came on first in relief and pitched two innings, allowed six runs on five hits, including a pair of home runs.
Brad Schwind scattered three hits and struck out six over five innings to improve to 7-2 on the year for Loras.
