Central College led 5-3 midway through Saturday's series finale in Pella before the Beaver offense exploded for 18 unanswered runs en route to a commanding 21-9 Iowa Conference victory over the Dutch.
A two-run home run aided the Dutch to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Beavers chipped away at that lead and pulled even at 3-3 in the third on a sacrifice fly by Coleman Roberts. A solo home run by Central in the fourth and a steal of home put the Dutch back in front at 5-3, but it was all Beavers from there.
BVU had just two hits midway through the game but had taken advantage of five Central errors to score the three early runs.
Bryce Rheault got the scoring parade started with an RBI double during a four-run sixth inning. He then tripled home a run in the seventh and doubled home another run in the ninth. Devin Wagenman had a pair of RBI doubles with Roberts adding a three-run double to make it 19-5. After scoring the four runs in the sixth, BVU went on to add three in both the seventh and eighth before erupting for eight in the ninth.
Parker Truesdell had a career-high four hits to help spark the explosion while also scoring four times. Rheault had two doubles and a triple and drove in four runs and scored three more. Roberts, who had six hits during Friday's doubleheader, added three more today, including a double, while driving in a career-best five and scoring twice. Wagenman also had three hits, including a pair of doubles as BVU finished with 21 hits (10 for extra bases).
Central, which had 11 hits, added four runs in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little too late.
Tyler Heineman pitched a career-high eight innings en route to his first collegiate victory. He scattered eight hits and struck out four.
Buena Vista improves to 8-11 (4-2 IIAC) and has picked up series wins in its first two weekends. The Dutch dip to 10-10 (1-5 IIAC). The Beavers are now scheduled to host Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon in a doubleheader with first pitch of game one at 3:30pm.
