Baseball Moves to 2-0 with Convincing Win over North Park

The offense got going on Saturday for Buena Vista which posted 15 hits and scored in the final four innings to break open the game and defeat North Park, 11-2, inside of GCS Ballpark.

Senior Bennett Mann put the team up right away in the first with a big three-run home run, and that wound up being more than enough offensive support for the Beaver hurlers.  Neither team scored again until BVU plated a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 5-0 before a big four-run seventh made it 9-0.

North Park was held hitless until the seventh when it got on the board with a single run that was given right back in the eighth when Kolby Hilgenberg came on and hit a pinch hit home run to give BVU a 10-1 cushion.  He then reached on an error in the ninth as Brandon Wessels scored, and put the Beavers in front by 10.

Sophomore Keenan Jones made his collegiate varsity debut and was strong in his six innings of work.  He did not allow a single run or hit and struck out six, while working around four walks to earn his first career victory.

Tyson Valentine, Ryan Duncan and Dalton Mason each came on to work one inning in relief to close things out.

Noah Paper turned in a career-high four hits to help lead BVU at the dish while Cam Johnson added a career-best three base knocks.  The pair also drove in a run and each scored once.  Neil Marshall and Brandon Wessels each had two hits at the top of the line-up to set the tone while Mann also walked twice and scored two runs.

Buena Vista improves to 2-0 on the year and will face a pair of tough tests on Monday when it takes on Concordia-Chicago at 10:00am and UW-Oshkosh at 1:00pm.  Both teams were receiving votes in this year's preseason poll.
