The Buena Vista baseball team saw its season come to an end on Friday afternoon, as it was eliminated from the Iowa Conference Tournament following an 11-4 loss to fourth-seeded Central College inside of Veterans Memorial Stadium.
After both teams went scoreless in the first, the Dutch scored the game's first runs in the second inning for a 2-0. BVU got one of those runs back in the bottom half, but Central went on to get the two-run margin back in the third.
After the Beavers were kept off the board in their half of the third Central then upped its lead to 5-2 with two more runs in the fourth before putting up six more in the fifth to make it an 11-2 lead.
BVU tried to fight its way back late in the game, getting two runs in the seventh, but that ended up being the game's final runs.
Freshman Brandon Wessels went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI with Tanner Truesdell going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Joe Paletta and Alex Davis also tallied two base hits each, as the Beavers finished with 11 hits.
The two teams combined to strand 25 runners in the contest.
Freshman Kendall Hazel got the start and last only three innings, allowing four runs on four hits, while also walking four. Brennan Holm then came on in relief and was charged with seven unearned runs on seven hits.
Buena Vista was charged with four errors for the second straight game.
Buena Vista closes its season at 23-19 overall. Today's game also marked the final contest in the career of eight seniors: Alex Davis, Jake Daniels, Griffin Hatten, Ryan Scheetz, Brennan Holm, Neil Eddie, Tyler Lefeber, Kelsen Ganeku.
