The Buena Vista women's cross country team competed in the first annual Trent Smith Invitational, hosted by NIACC, on Friday evening in Mason City, and the Beavers finished with a pair of runners in the top-25, with two others setting personal best best times.
Junior Katie Puls led the way with a 17th place effort in a time of 21:29 with Maya Rowe close behind in 22nd at 22:14. Tara Harris was 10 seconds behind in 22:35 while Elena Vahnenko (23:54) and Alexis Koetters (24:35) each set season best times in the race.
A total of 40 runners ran in the event which was ran by Joanna Topham of Hawkeye Community College in a time of 19:20.
Buena Vista will have this week off and will continue to prepare for next week's Iowa Conference Championships which take place in Waverly and are hosted by Wartburg College. The women's race will kick-off the day at 11:00 a.m.
