Buena Vista senior outside hitter Jade Schaap has turned in an illustrious playing career, and on Thursday, she added to her resume by becoming just the second four-time all-conference selection in program history. Fellow senior Ali Grein was tabbed Honorable Mention as was junior Serena Sandvig.
Schaap, the 2014 IIAC Freshman of the Year, enters Friday's IIAC Tournament semifinal match-up with 1,880 career kills and ranked fifth during league play this season, averaging 3.39 kills per set. She hit .141 in those matches while also averaging 3.0 digs/set and 0.58 blocks/set. She became the program's all-time leader in kills with her third kill during the team's thrilling comeback victory at Coe College to wrap up the league schedule. Only Maddie Bardole (2013-16) has earned All-IIAC all four years in BVU history.
Grein and Sandvig are each recognized for the first time in their BVU careers. Grein was second on the team behind Schaap in kills on the year and averaged 2.45 per set during IIAC play. She was also tough at the net defensively, averaging just over 0.60 blocks/set over the eight conference matches. Sandvig was just shy of 2.0 kills/set against league foes, but sat fifth in those matches in attack percentage at .284. She was also sixth in blocks/set (0.77).
The trio helped BVU finish 5-3 in conference play and earn the third seed into this year's IIAC Tournament. The team won all four home IIAC matches and went 8-0 inside of Siebens Fieldhouse overall. The Beavers enter Friday's tournament semifinal match at 21-9 overall and riding an 11-match overall win streak.
