The Buena Vista women's track and field team competed at the Loras College Dr. Tucker Invite on Friday afternoon as the team was in action for the final time leading up to the Iowa Conference Championships beginning May 11.
Mallory Spear posted a third-place finish in the 100m dash (12.53) followed by a runner-up mark in the 200m (25.61). The 200 time was her season best and she moved to eighth in the IIAC. Both times are within a second of the top spot in the league.
Katie Puls came through with a big personal best time in the 800m run (2:32.12). She placed 12th overall and was only three seconds out of a top-eight spot.
Madison Spear captured the individual title in the 100m hurdles and was fourth in the 400m hurdles. She crossed the 100m line in 15.00 which was only .20 off her season best time which is currently third in the IIAC and 29th in NCAA. She was a second off her season best in the 400m.
The 4x400 relay which consist of both Spear sisters, as well as Shania Wunschel and Jessica Igarishi, took fourth.
Brooke Runneberg tied for third in the high jump by matching her personal-best at 1.55m. That height currently ranks fifth in the IIAC.
The Iowa Conference Championships will get underway inside of J. Leslie Rollins Stadium in Storm Lake with the multi-events on Thursday, May 11. The rest of the events will begin on Friday, May 12 and finish on Saturday, May 13.
