The Buena Vista women's soccer team got a late first half goal from senior Caroline Maher which cut the deficit in half going into the break, but the Beavers came up short in the second as the Kohawks added an insurance goal midway through for a 3-1 victory.
Coe got on the board in the first five minutes before making it a 2-0 lead midway through the first half. From there, though, BVU buckled down on the defensive side and began to put pressure on the offensive end to keep the Kohawks on their toes. Maher was able to get to a loose ball and knock it through during the 40' for her team-leading seventh goal of the year.
The Kohawks held a slim 6-5 lead in shots over the final 45 minutes, but the one that eventually counted most was during the 64 when Sydney Schroder raced down the near sideline, made one BVU defender miss before cutting back to the center of the field to power a shot past a diving Rachel Novotny.
Maher had a team-high four shots for the Beavers while Madisyn Reiakvam added three. Novotny finished with six saves while going the distance.
Buena Vista dips to 3-12-1, 0-5 IIAC) and now travels to Central College on Wednesday afternoon for a 2:30 p.m., match against the Dutch.
