Wrestling Rolls to 41-9 Victory over St. Olaf on Saturday

The Buena Vista wrestling team closed out the calendar year on Saturday afternoon with a convincing 41-9 non-conference home victory over St. Olaf College inside of Siebens Fieldhouse.

Nate Vento put the Beavers in front right from the opening match with his wild 20-11 major decision at 125 pounds.  The Oles came right back with a 9-3 decision at 133 pounds, but it was all BVU from there.  St. Olaf forfeited three weight classes in the dual, including 141 which began the start of seven straight Beaver victories.  Freshman John Tuttle and junior Brad Kerkhoff broke the dual wide open with back-to-back pins at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively.  Tuttle improved to 8-5 with his second period fall while Kerkhoff's pin was his third of the year and it came in just 43 seconds.

Junior Shane Vaughan won his second dual match of the week with a strong 9-2 victory at 174 pounds before junior Kevin Pape picked up a 12-2 major decision for his seventh win of the year.

St. Olaf (0-3) closed out the dual with a pin at heavyweight from Troy Beaman, who placed fourth at the NCAA Central Regional Tournament in 2016-17.

Buena Vista (1-2) is now off until after the New Year when the team travels to #8 Loras College on Friday, January 5.
