About Buena Vista: The Beavers have wrestled at three straight Open tournaments to start the year.  A young team overall, BVU has seven wrestlers at or above .500 on the year, led by 141-pounder Riley Altenburg, who is a team-best 6-4.  Junior 165-pounder, Shane Vaughan, is next with five wins, and he and Altenburg are joined by fellow junior Kevin Pape for the team lead at four pins.  Vaughan tied the school record for falls in a season a year ago with 18.  Junior 157-pounder Brad Kerkhoff comes in with a career overall record of 42-31 and is currently 3-4 on the year with three of those four setbacks at two points or less.  The Beavers were victorious in their lone non-conference dual a season ago.

About Northwestern: The Red Raiders are also opening their dual-meet schedule after consecutive Open tournaments to start the year, including a trip to Kearney, Neb., for the Kearney Open this past Saturday.  Off the sixteen wrestlers that competed in the event, which is considered one of the toughtest in the country, the team chalked up 28 total wins and had a pair of individuals with five each.  Jake Hergott (133lbs) and D'rell Gist (184lbs) each went 5-1 on the day and captured fourth-place finishes.  Junior Brandon Shuler posted a big win himself by knocking off a 2017 NJCAA national champion.  Northwestern has a good mix of veterans and newcomers on this year's roster which is looking to build off a 5-3 dual record from a year ago.

Looking ahead: The Beavers will be off through the Thanksgiving holiday and return to the mat on Saturday, December 2, when they host the annual BVU Open inside of the Lamberti Rec Center at 9:00 a.m.  The team then hosts #15 Coe College in the Iowa Conference opener on Wendesday, December 6.
