Luther Pulls Away in Final Matches for 27-16 Win over Beavers

Buena Vista trailed 17-3 through five matches at Luther College on Friday night, but the Beavers roared back to within 17-16 before the Norse scored bonus points while winning the final two bouts en route to a 27-16 Iowa Conference victory.

The dual began at 197 pounds, and the Norse caputred wins in four of the first five matches.  BVU senior Ernesto Garcia put the Beavers on the board with a 4-1 decision at 125 pounds to win for the 15th time this season.

Following two straight wins by the Norse, Shane Vaughan got the comeback started with a thrilling pin at 149 pounds before Brad Kerkhoff followed with a commanding 17-7 major decision.  Senior Andrew Nelson made i three striaght wins for the blue and gold when he captured a 4-1 victory to make it 17-16.

The Norse, however, were just too much in the end, going on to post a major decision and a second-period pin to close out the night.

Buena Vista finishes the regular season at 2-7 overall (1-7 IIAC).  The Beavers will now look to prepare for the NCAA Central Regional Tournament which will take place in Dubuque at the Five Seasons Center on Saturday, February 25.
