Beavers Suffer 76-52 Home Loss against Luther

Jasmine Demers scored 16 points and Holly Schneider added 12, but Buena Vista was unable to overcome 26 turnovers on Wednesday night, as the Beavers fell at home to Luther College, 76-52.

Schneider scored nine early points as the Beavers held a 14-9 lead with under three minutes left in the first quarter.  The Norse, however, closed the period on a 9-1 spurt, including a running three-point shot as time expired, to take a three-point lead to the second.

BVU scored the first six points of the second to take a three-point lead, but the Norse answered back with eight straight to take a 29-21 and never trailed again.  The Beavers got as close as four, but a three-point bucket for Luther in the closing seconds of the half gave the Norse a 41-32 cushion.

Luther had success with its press and trap defense all game long which led to 39 points off turnovers.  The Norse also held a 47-37 advantage on the glass and held a 13-5 margin in second chance points.

Demers and Schneider combined to shoot 12-of-24 from the field while no other player made more than three.

Claudia Larsen registered seven points and grabbed 13 rebounds and also became the school's single-season record-holder in blocks with five more against the Norse.  She now has 52 on the year which breaks Jocelyn Kock's single-season mark of 51 set back in 2010-11.

Morgan Muhlbauer scored seven points and grabbed six boards and was held to just 1-of-7 from downtown.

Luther improves to 12-7 (6-2 IIAC) while Buena Vista has now dropped four straight to move to 8-9 (3-4 IIAC).  The Beavers begin the second half of the conference schedule on Saturday evening when they host Simpson College (11-6, 5-3 IIAC) at 5:00 p.m.
