Sophomore Holly Schneider led four starters in double figures with a career-high 21 points on Tuesday night, and the fourth-seeded Buena Vista women's basketball team moved onto Thursday night's semifinals of the Iowa Conference Tournament with an 80-66 victory inside of Siebens Fieldhouse over fifth-seed Coe College.
Schneider made a career-high four three-point buckets and was 8-of-11 from the field overall while also hauling in a career-best eight rebounds. Sidney Beckman made three more long range buckets and tallied 14 points, four rebounds and four assists. She's now only two makes shy of tying Lexi Fisher for second on the program's all-time career chart. Jasmine Demers scored 10 points and matched a career-best with seven assists as Jordan Tynes also turned in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds.
The Beavers scored the game's first seven points, forcing a Kohawk timeout and never looked back. They led by as many as 11 before taking a 24-15 lead to the second. Schneider hit a three to jump start the frame, but Coe was able to settle down and get back as close as five at 27-22 with a qucik 7-0 run.
Beckman nailed a three to push it back to an eight-point margin and later ended the quarter with five straight points to give BVU a 44-32 cushion at the half.
A layup by McKenna Whitehill with under four minutes gone by in the second half gave BVU its largest lead of the night at 56-36, and the team was able to maintain the double-digit lead the rest of the way.
BVU led by 15 after three and Coe never got any closer than 11 in the final frame.
Buena Vista finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field, including 9-of-24 from long range, and 11-of-17 at the free-throw line.
Mickey Hansche scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the first half to lead Coe, which concluded its season at 12-14 overall.
Buena Vista improves to 14-12 and moves onto play at #1 seed Wartburg College on Thursday night at 7:00pm. It'll be the second time the two teams have met over the last five days.
