Jasmine Demers turned in a game-high 19 points and Sidney Beckman followed with 15, but the Buena Vista women's basketball team came up just short on Sunday afternoon in a 72-64 loss against 18th-ranked Puget Sound (8-0).

Demers made 8-of-13 shot attempts, including both attempts from long range, while grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out two assists, recording two steals and blocking two shots.  Beckman, meanwhile, made three from downtown and continues to close in on 200 in her career.

Buena Vista led by eight midway through the first quarter before Puget Sound answered to take a 17-16 lead after one.  The game remained close throughout the second stanza with BVU trailing by only five heading into the break.

Puget Sound opened up a 12-point lead just over a minute into the second half, but the Beavers contiuned to keep things close.  McKenna Whitehill made a pair of free-throws to cut the deficit to 49-43, but Puget Sound held a 53-45 lead heading to the fourth.

Morgan Muhlbauer, who turned in her first career double-double on Saturday, made a layup to bring the Beavers as close as 57-54, but that was as close as they got from there.  It was a four-point game with just over a minute to go, but Puget Sound made 4-of-6 at the free-throw line from there to secure the win.

The loss snaps BVU's four-game win streak, but the Beavers still head into the holiday break at 6-4.  They will return to action on Thursday, December 29, hosting Grinnell College at 2:00pm.
