Buena Vista senior designated player Marissa Schmidt has been named a First Team All-Region Performer as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Schmidt, who was named a First Team All-IIAC selection last week, now moves onto the ballot for All-Ameirca consideration. She hit .365 during league play and drove in 15 runs - a total that was fifth in the IIAC.
Overall, the Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, native ranked in the top-25 of the region with her .414 average and on-base percentage. She was one of the toughest in the region to striekout as well, ranking 16th, and striking out just once every 27.8 at-bats.
It's the second straight season BVU has landed an All-Region selection (Cheyanne Boland, Third Team in 2016)
Schmidt, who was one of 15 IIAC players named all-region, is seeking to become the first All-American for Beaver softball since 1998 (Andi Royster; First Team).
