Senior Kyle Wessling placed third, earning him all-conference recognition, in the men's javelin on Saturday afternoon during the final day of competition of the IIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by BVU.
The javelin took place out on the forum lawn and Wessling, who just missed out on all-conference accolades following a fourth-place effort in the decathlon, registered a big personal-best heave of 54.00m (177-02). He was the lone all-conference finisher for the Beaver men during the championships.
Brennan Dostal placed seventh in the 200m dash while shaving nearly a half-second off his previous best time.
Ben Sampson, running in his final career IIAC championship event, took seventh in a strong 800m field. His time of 1:55.90 was just off his fastest time of the year set during yesterday's preliminaries. He missed all-conference status by just over one second.
Fellow senior Justin Sacker came up .20 seconds off of earning all-conference in the 400m hurdles. He reached the finish line in a season-best time of 55.59.
Buena Vista totaled 34 points and placed ninth overall. Wartburg cruised to the team title with 160 points with Central second at 129.50.
The Beavers will take part in next week's Last Chance meet up in La Crosse, Wis. More information on that meet will be posted to bvuathletics.com as it becomes available.
