A pair of goals midway through the first half on Wednesday night proved to be the difference as the Buena Vista men's soccer team dropped a tough 2-0 non-conference home match to Northwestern (IA).
The Red Raiders, who had 21 total shots in the contest, got on the board via a penalty kick at the 27' mark. Six minutes later, they made it a 2-0 advantage on an unassisted goal from Alex Schussman.
BVU, which was held to only one shot over the first 45 minutes, continued to work on a comeback bid and had some strong opportunities, only to see multiple shot attempts in the second half go just wide or get saved.
Five different players turned in one shot for the Beavers, but only three went on-goal.
Miguel Garcia Aguilar played all 90 minutes in-goal for the Beavers and kept BVU in the contest. Despite the two goals allowed, he did turn in 10 saves.
Buena Vista dips to 3-6 on the year and will look to end a three-match losing skid when it hosts Cornell College next Thursday night at 7:00pm before opening Iowa Conference play on September 30 at home against Luther College.
