Men's Soccer Drops 2OT Heartbreaker at Grinnell

Willy Salamanca scored his fourth goal of the year near the midway point of the second half to tie the score at 1-1, but the Beavers eventually dropped a heartbreaker late in double overtime on Sunday at Grinnell, 2-1.

The Pioneers got on the board first less than seven minutes into the contest, and that's how things stood until Salamanca tied it up in the 61'.  BVU had nine first half shots compared to only four by Grinell.  The second half was nearly the opposite, as the Pioneers put up 10 shots and held BVU to just five.

Both teams registered just one shot in the first overtime, and the match looked like it might be headed for a tie, but the Pioneers got their third shot of the second overtime period to find the back of the net with under four minutes left.

Salamanca had a team-high six shots, including four of the eight shots-on-goal.  Steve Nyaye was close behind with three shots.  Goalkeeper Miguel Garcia Aguilar suffered the tough loss, going the distance, allowing the two goals and posting five saves.

Buena Vista is now 3-5 on the year with three of their five setbacks coming by just one goal.  It will look to bounce back when it returns home on Wednesday night to host Northwestern College (IA) in an 8:00pm contest.
