Sophomore Noah Bardwell scored twice for Buena Vista on Tuesday night, including the game-winner from a nice wheel kick from Willy Salamanca, and the Beavers topped visiting Martin Luther in double overtime, 2-1.
Bardwell tied things up just over 10 minutes into the contest with his second goal in as many outings. Both teams had multiple chances to knock home another goal, but came up short and the match headed for overtime. In the first OT stanza, each team managed to get off one shot before being forced to go to a second. In the final OT period, Salamanca did a mini wheel kick with Bardwell right behind him. Bardwell then took the feeed and punched it through the back left corner, sending the crowd and the BVU bench into a frenzy onto the field.
Bardwell, who now leads the Beavers with six points, has two goals and a pair of assists on the year. Three players added a pair of shots as each team recorded 16 on the night.
Cesar Gonzalez-Ballesteros took over at the start of the second half in-goal and went on to earn the decision, playing 56:10 and recording one shot.
Buena Vista improves to 2-1 on the year and will look for consecutive wins when they travel north to Concordaia-Moorhead on Friday for a 5:00pm start.
